Central Coast Wines to go International

Friday, August 25, 2006

With plans to broaden the wine selection and educate patrons on international wines, local sommelier Aaron Warren has bought Central Coast Wines at 712 Higuera St. in San Luis Obispo.

Warren acquired about 900 wines with the purchase of the store, nearly all from the Central Coast. When the store - newly named Central Coast Wines International - reopens in late September, it will showcase wines from the major wine-growing areas of the world, with an emphasis on Burgundy, France. International wines and wines from other domestic regions will eventually make up 30 percent of the selection.

The store will also feature a wine bar with expanded bar seating; a selection of artisan cheeses, olives and spreads for purchase; and weekly events featuring local winemakers. Warren plans to offer an extensive selection of vertical wine tastings, which is a tasting of wines from consecutive vintages from the same producer.
