Local Winemakers and Grape Growers RecognizedThursday, July 27, 2006Local winemakers and grape growers recognized three peers for their contributions to the success and growth of the region at the 2006 wine industry awards.Don Brady of Robert Hall Winery was named Winemaker of the Year, Hank Ashby of French Camp Vineyards won Wine Grape Grower of the Year and Doug Filipponi was honored as Wine Industry Person of the Year. The winners were announced at the California Mid-State Fair premiere party Tuesday evening and will be recognized again at the Evening of Music and Wine in the main grandstand arena on Aug. 4. They were nominated and voted on by the board of directors of the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance, the San Luis Obispo Vintners Association and the Independent Grape Growers of Paso Robles Area. The wine festivals and the high scores our local wines are receiving in the trade magazines are directing a lot of attention here. It will be exciting to see what unfolds over the next five years.
