That competition sent shockwaves throughout the wine world and helped cement California as an established wine region. The Paris Tasting, as the event became known, marked a turning point in the history of not only California wine but also world wine. Some wine lovers call the event the most important wine-tasting in history. Talley was the only San Luis Obispo County winery chosen to participate in the tasting competition at The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts in Napa. The Arroyo Grande winery's 2002 Rosemary's Vineyard vintage was one of six chardonnays from the United States being poured at the competition.
