Meet Rudy Duran

Rudy Duran, a San Luis Obispo County resident best known for being Tiger Woods first golf coach from ages 4 to 10, is now one of today's most sought after golf instructors for both juniors and adults.

Rudy turned professional in 1971 and has been a member of the PGA of America since 1976, He played his tournament golf on the CANADIAN TOUR in 1976 and 1977and the PGA TOUR in 1977 and 1978.

After he finished tournement golf he put his energys in teaching and golf course management. During his 33 years in the golf industry Rudy has often been recognized for his contributions to golf.
  • He was voted three times the SCPGA Northern Chapter Golf Professional of the Year in 1989, 1994 and 1999.
  • He received the Southern California PGA Section Bill Straus Baugh Award in 1994 for contributions to PGA club relations.
  • He received the 1999 California Golf Writers Association Golden State Award for contributions to golf.
  • In 2000 Tiger Woods presented Duran his most prestigious award; the PGA TOUR'S Card Walker Award for his contribution to Junior Golf.
  • He received the 2004 Southern California PGA Section Junior Golf Leader Award.
  • He was the Secretary of the founding Board of Directors of the First Tee Central Coast.
  • He was President for the SCPGA Northern Chapter.
  • He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for The First Tee Central Coast.

Duran teaches his students, not only the keys to becoming a great golfer, but also life skills which transcend the sport of golf. Duran also has an ability to comunicate with students of all ages. Whether the student is 4 or 104 Rudy loves to teach and play golf. He teaches aspiring stars, to daily golfers to touring Pro's. Duran teaches players of all ages and abilities how to bring out their natural abilities to play the best golf possible.

While Duran's talents as a golf coach are widely known, few know that he is also a golf course designer, owner and operator. This unique background is rarely found in the world of Golf and offers his students true insight into all aspects of the game. Duran operates two golf courses located on the Central Coast of California, The Links Course at Paso Robles and Chalk Mountain Golf Course. Duran also designed The Links Course, a Scottish style links course, and co-designed the River Oaks Golf Course, a six-hole course, which is part of a Master Planned Community in Paso Robles.

Duran brings his knowledge off the course and onto the shelves as an Author, penning his acclaimed book, "In Every Kid There Lurks a Tiger." This book is designed to help parents coach their children and is filled with Duran's personal teaching tips. The book also includes several nostalgic experiences as the first coach of one of golf's greatest players.
